What is Auriculotherapy?
Auriculotherapy is a therapy in which gentle micro-current electrical stimulation is applied by a hand held device to the external ear and is used to treat health conditions in all parts of the body.
Auriculotherapy has a long history in ancient Chinese Medicine and modern Auriculotherapy has deep roots from as long back as 1957.
Auriculotherapy is a microsystem of acupuncture, in other words, every anatomical structure in every system of the body has a corresponding reflex point on the surface of the ear. The minor parts mirror the whole and can be broken down to genetic coding.
Auriculotherapy is the only direct micro-system that can be used for diagnosis and treatment. Iridology is the only other direct micro-system, but this can only be used for diagnosis. All other microsystems such as foot Reflexology and Acupuncture are indirect.
How does Auriculotherapy work?
Auriculotherapy is often confused with ear acupuncture but it uses no needles, and instead of meridians uses nerve connections. A micro-current tester and stimulator can be run around the surface of the ear (like a metal detector) to search for active reflex points. These points can then be stimulated with appropriate currents to send a message to the brain to assist with balancing or harmonizing the associated body functions and feelings. Most people only feel a tiny tingling at the ear reflex points during treatment.
Imagine your brain as a computer. Inside this computer is a map of the entire body. This map is projected onto the ear through the body’s nervous system, making the ear like a computer screen display. Accessing the points on the ear is then like using a computers keyboard to gain entrance into the system. With this system we are able to directly detect and treat a number of physiological imbalanced through the brains computer.
What can Auriculotherapy treat?
The World Health Organization recognizes Auriculotherapy as being able to help with around 150 different health conditions.
- Musculoskeletal Disorders
- Brain and Mental Disorders
- Pain Management
- Addictive and Compulsive Disorders
- Interanl Disorders (organ and organ system pathologies)
There are no known contraindications or dangers of Auriculotherapy. For ultra-safety it has been recommended not to have this treatment if you have a pacemaker or are in the first trimester of pregnancy – but discuss any concerns you may have with your Practitioner.
